After Palmach HQ was disbanded, in the midst of the War of Independence, Palmach units continued to fight within the regular units of the IDF.
At the end of the war, most of the soldiers were demobilized and turned to civilian occupations. But some of the commanders continued their military service, and brought with them the values of the Haganah and Palmach, and the sense of public-political, Zionist and social mission. This generation, the Palmach Generation, made a tremendous contribution to the security of Israel in coming years, as well as to its development and the shaping of the country's political, economic, social and education character.
