Lieutenant-Colonel Karni Gershgorn Shalom Shlemkah

Shalom was born on the Wednesday of Elul 1925 (August 24, 1925) in the Land of Israel. In his youth he was a member of the Youth Brigades (Gdanah) and the Haganah Organization in Tel Aviv, and as part of it he went to the Squad commander course in 1942. In 1944 he enlisted in the Palmach and after completing a course of Squad Commanders. He was appointed a class commander. In 1947, he went to a course for platoon commanders, after which he was appointed an intelligence officer of the 5th battalion. After a while, he was appointed commander of Company C and then deputy commander of the 5th battalion. During the War of Independence, he participated in all the activities of the battalion. After the dissolution of the Palmach, Shalom continued in the service in the IDF. He was stationed in the IDF and during that time he participated in the battalion commanders course, which he instructed after its completion. After a while he was appointed commander of an armored battalion in the 7th Brigade. Shalom was released from service in the IDF in 1956 with the rank of lieutenant colonel. In recent years Shalom has been living in the United States. Shalom Carney died in Los Angeles on 5th January 2015
