תיאור הספר

In his autobiographical book Amos Horev reveals the daily life of the Palmach fighters and commanders, the failures, the successes, and above all the motivation to fight to the end even when the results were not guaranteed and when the chances were low. The story of Amos' life continues from the War of Independence to the IDF in its early years, when as chief armaments officer, almost out of nowhere, he leads the building of the strength of the ground forces. Tanks, cannons, crawlers, and other weapons are purchased from junkyards and surplus warehouses from the Second World War, and workshops are turned into sophisticated factories that develop, upgrade and manufacture them for the IDF. In the three wars, from the Sinai War, the Six Days War to the Yom Kippur War, it was the land power base of the State of Israel. With great honesty, and without making concessions to others and to himself, Amos tells what is not always recorded in decision-making protocols, especially when the business and the professional were intertwined in an unspoken network of relationships between senior commanders. A year before the Yom Kippur War, and he was the head of the AGA, Amos was replaced and had to stand on the sidelines to see the dire results of the wear and tear of the weapons and the neglect of the systems he worked on to prepare them for war, and the wrong decisions that were made at the time. After his release from the IDF, Amos turned to civic-national challenges, including the president of the Technion and the chairman of Raphael. Amidst the wars and the national mission, the family member did not disappear, and another layer of his inner world was revealed in his book about Shoshana, his wife and the love of his life. This is how, simply and honestly, the life of a man who folds the story of Israel in a groundbreaking generation for all of us, living here, is told
