Commemoration
One of the main objectives of the Association of Palmach Veterans was to commemorate the 1168 Palmach fallen.
One of the main objectives of the Association of Palmach Veterans was to commemorate the 1170 Palmach fallen. The first fallen were the 23 Hagana seamen whose ship sailed on its mission a few days after the establishment of the Palmach in May 1941. Palmach members participated in many operations during the years leading up to the War of Independence, some of who died in those battles. Members also passed away from illnesses, training accidents and car accidents. The three Palmach Brigades took part in the War of Independence, and the number of casualties was numerous. The Palmach fallen are commemorated by a number of memorial sites throughout Israel. A Memorial Hall was built at 'Beit Ha'Palmach' (The Palmach House) and it contains a drawer for each fallen name, with his/her personal file, documents, pictures and various personal belongings. The names of the fallen are also commemorated at the Palmach Museum in correlation to the battle fronts and the death dates.
