The Planning of the Break into Atlit Detention Camp

The break into Atlit was planned by Yitzhak Rabin, Nachum Sarig's deputy. According to plan, six warriors headed by Shalom Chevlin infiltrated the camp a few days before the operation disguised as instructors and Hebrew teachers. They prepared and organized the immigrants for the escape. Sometime before the operation, the infiltrators secretly sabotaged the guards' rifles and marked the breakthrough points in the fences, and then – moments before the break – took over the guards in their posts.
