Recruited Hachsharot

The pioneering youth movements, whose graduates were became recruited Hachsharot in the Palmach, were: Hanoar Haoved, Hamachanot Haolim, United Movement, Hashomer Hatzair, Maccabi Hatzair and Hatzofim.
The idea of recruiting graduates of pioneering youth movements was raised in the summer of 1942 and was made official with the formulation of the “Hachsharot agreement” and its approval in summer 1944. Following the agreement all graduate groups of the pioneering youth movements were recruited into the Palmach, between the years 1944-1948.
The pioneering youth movements, whose graduates were became recruited Hachsharot, were: Hanoar Haoved, Hamachanot Haolim, United Movement, Hashomer Hatzair, Maccabi Hatzair and the Hatzufim.
After the end of the Second World War, when youth were no longer required to enlist by order of the institutions, recruited hachsharot of the youth movements and the youth Aliyah had provided a large, constant and valuable reserve force for the Palmach, which had a dominant position (quality and quantity).
Due to the fact that many hachsharot people were joined the Palmach, the connection between Palmach and the settlement movements was also reinforced.
After the idea of the Hachsharot was adopted by every pioneering youth movement, the Palmach became a resource for the settlement’s reserve force, and for a period the Palmach itself served as a settling party that founded the Palmach’s settlements.
Groups of graduates of youth movements and youth Aliyah that had finished serving in the Palmach, founded 36 new settlements and reinforced 32 existing settlements between the years 1944-1949.
