The Palmach Brigades

The Palmach reached the height of its operation during the War of Independence. With the onset of the war, the Palmach enlisted its backlog (the 'Reserve') and formed six battalions. During the months of March – April 1948, the Palmach was organized in three Brigades – the 'Negev' Brigade, 'Harel' Brigade and 'Yiftach' Brigade, which added into nine battalions.
The Palmach Brigades held key positions in the War of Independence operations such as: Operation "Danny," Operation "Yoav," and Operation "Ovda".
