Operation "Dani"
‘Operation Dani’ was the biggest and most important one of the Central Front in the ‘Ten Day’ battles from July 10 to July 18 1948. It was intended to liberate Jerusalem and the road to Jerusalem by attacking the Legion forces in the areas of Lydda-Ramleh-Latrun-Ramallah. At first the operation was called (‘Lerler’) LRLR (the initials of the four towns above) until it was named ‘Dani’ for Dani Mass the “35 platoon” commander.

Planning:
The planning of the operation included two phases, each one of them containing an encircling pincer movement.
The first phase: the occupation of Lydda and Ramleh; ‘Yiftach’ Brigade was to outflank Lydda and Ramleh from the south and the 8th Brigade was to outflank them from the north.
The second phase: the encirclement of the Latrun region: ‘Harel’ Brigade was to attack the Radar positions, the neighbouring village of Bidu and reach the Ramallah region. The 8th Brigade (or ‘Yiftach) would advance from Beit-Naballah and from Ben-Shemen and occupy the area of upper Beit-Horon.
