Operation "Asaf"
The operation was named after the commander of the first Palmach force sent to the Negev, Asaf Sakna'ee who was killed on the 9th of December, 1947 together with 5 of his men in the Arab village of Shu'ut.

The enemy- 10th infantry Brigade and a 'Locust' tank battalion dominated the area west of the 'Habsor' stream. The occupation of the area west of the 'Habsor' stream, up to Tel-Jema-Hirbet Ma'ayan-Nirim was assigned to the 'Golani' and 8th Brigades. The operation commenced on the 5th of December, 1948 and on the 8th of December, our forces occupied the line mentioned above after several battles including the Egyptian tank attack against Sheik Noren.
