The force retreated with no casualties, while the rear guard squad spread pepper powder while walking on the road, to cover up the retreat route.
The force retreated with no casualties, while the rear guard squad spread pepper powder while walking on the road, to cover up the retreat route from chasers and tracking dogs. The warriors arrived at the truck that took them to the fishponds in Beit-Haarava, where they hid their arms. From there, the force drove to the dock near the Qalya -Palestine Potash Company along the northern shore of the Dead Sea. The warriors took a motor boat south to En-Fashcha, disguised as a group of students on a botanical, zoological trip to the area. From there, the warriors marched for an hour until En-Traiba, located half way between En-Fashcha and En-Gedi (below kibbutz Mitspe Shalem of today), and hid there during the day. At dark, they embarked on a 40km journey on foot, which ended at dawn in kibbutz Ramat-Rachel. The force was delayed a bit due to an asthma attack suffered by one of them. However, the journey on foot that was initially planned for two nights was completed in one night only, thanks to the will power and fairly good physical fitness of most of the warriors.
The operation proved great courage and great operational skills, but only stopped the traffic on the bridge for a short time. Two days later, traffic was renewed on Allenby Bridge using an alternate structure and three months later the bridge was restored and reopened for traffic.
