Bombing of the Nachal Akhziv Bridges

The sabotage mission of both bridges was assigned to a force from the First Battalion, which consisted of 43 warriors headed by Nechemia Shine, commander of Company 6.
Nachal Akhziv (Wadi Qurain) flows into the Mediterranean, south of Ras En Naqura, near the Arab village A-Zib. Two mid-sized bridges extended over the river, 50 meters apart: A railroad bridge and a road-bridge. The ridges connected Israel with Lebanon. The bridges were near British military bases, guarded by company of Arab watchmen.
The sabotage mission of both bridges was assigned to a force from the First Battalion, which consisted of 43 warriors headed by Nechemia Shine, commander of Company 6. The warriors belonged to Palmach units that lived on kibbutz En-Harod and kibbutz Ganigar. Yonatan (Johnny) Dolinsky (Dotan), commander of the Ganigar Company, was assigned to be the operation commander. The force was joined by Yechiam Veitz, who had previously served as trainer of the 3rd Battalion. The training for the raid was held in the Ma'ayan Harod area. 300kg of explosives were allocated for the sabotage, 150kg for each bridge. The explosives were received from the 'Solel Boneh' quarries and were packed in backpacks, each weighing 25kg.
