The force embarked on its mission from kibbutz Mezzuva at nightfall on June 16th, 1946. The warriors wore uniforms and carried British arms in order to disguise their identity. When they neared the bridge, they came upon three Arabs. Nechemia Shine wanted to capture and tie them until the mission was over. Yechiam Veits preferred to remove them and sent them away by swearing in English. There are three versions regarding the response of the three Arabs: They may have escaped to one of the nearby huts and did nothing, or went away – thinking that was British force – or perhaps they went back and told the guards on the bridge of what they saw and heard? Even after investigations were held by Palmach 'Mista'arvim,' it has remained a mystery.
Close to 23:00, the force arrived at its deployment point.
