Ramot Naftali
Palmach settlement founded in April 1945.
A Palmach settlement in eastern upper Galilee, three kilometers from the Lebanese border, near the Nebi Yosha fortress, in Nahalat Naftali, for which it was named. The settlement was founded on the 25th of April 1945 (12 of Iyar Tasha) by Palmach veterans, members of the Bnei Peled group (members of the Palmach's D Company), graduates of Mikve Yisrael, and members of the Moshavim movement. They camped near the existing ancient fortress, built tents and cabins, and later renovated the fortress. Several months later, the founders were replaced by the Wingate group, soldiers who were veterans of the British army that settled near the fortress and planned to establish a communal agricultural moshav. The name of the settlement was changed to Yemin Orde.
During the War of Independence, the settlement was attacked several times, by both the Al-Qawuqji's Arab Liberation army from Lebanon and by Syrian army forces. For a certain period, the settlement was under siege.
At the end of the War of Independence, most of the founders left the settlement, and were replaced by new immigrants who built their homes near the settlement's original site, and renamed it Ramot Naftali. After 10 very difficult years, these settlers left, and members of moshavim replaced them and established a moshav.
