Higher Education and Scientific Research

During the years 1941-1948, many young men and wemen, left school and volunteered to the Palmach.
Part of them, Israeli born, did not grauduate from school. Others who feld from occupied Europe or came as immigrants, did not finish their high school studies, as well. Many of the Palmach members joined the force at the age of 15-20 years old. Even though they were enlisted in the Palmach, when they were young, many former Palmach members achieved high positions in Scientific Research both in Israeli and in International Universities.
The early draft to the Palmach, leaving their parents home at an young age, and building the new settlements after the War of Independence - cut and stopped the Palmach members from continuing their higher education studies. Only when they were older, did they continue their studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, the Technion in Haifa, and at European and American Institutions. In spite of their late start, former Palmach memebers achieved high position at the Academy: Included, dozens of world renowned Professors who worked in Higher Education Institutions, Research Institutes and at Medical Establishments, contributing greatly to the formulation of the country's educational and scientifical systems in the first decades .
