Sea transport owes its development to the Palyam members who during the years 1945-1948, were responsible for safely transporting 65 illegal ships with 70,000 survivors on board to Palestine, and who were later to serve in the new I.D.F Navy. Palyam members' roles in the merchant navy included: captains, officers, mechanics etc.
Air transport owes its development to the Palmach "Flight Unit" that was established in 1943 and trained 23 pilots who received British Mandatory Flight Permits and served in the Hagana "Air Service", established during the War of Independence, which later became the I.D.F Air Force.
Palmach pilots served as senior pilots for El-Al - Israel National Airlines.
Economics: many Palmach veterans became entrepreneurs and industrialists, managers of large firms and institutions, general managers of government ministries, deans, hospital administrators, Kibbutzim and Moshavim founders as well as professionals in many fields. Many filled high positions in government ministries, port authorities, Dead Sea works, banks and various major companies.
