Of all the combat forces and security bodies which operated during the war, the initiative to establish a rehabilitation home for the War's injured soldiers is attributed to the Palmach. In the course of the fighting, the Palmach, whose men fought in the front, suffered many casualties and fatalities. The need to care for the wounded, agreed with a world view which encouraged mutual aid and active care for injured recovering friends. The Yud Daled home (commemorating the fourteen soldiers who were killed in the raid on A- Ziv Bridge on the Night of the bridges in June 1964), was established in order to take care of the Palmach's injured men.
