The bridge was destroyed and the force retreated towards kibbutz Hamadiya, eight kilometers away. In order to cover up its tracks, the force entered the fishponds in the Besian Valley on its way. This route made it hard for the warriors to move and they feared not getting to Hamadiya until after dawn. Axelrod decided to change the retreat target: The force turned back towards Ma'oz Hayyim and safely returned to its base.
The British built a new bridge alongside the destroyed one, which was bombed once again on February 14, 1948 by warriors from the 1st Battalion, to prevent Jordanian forces from moving into Israel. Zvi Prutsel was killed in this mission. The bridge was restored again and opened to traffic following the peace agreements between Israel and Jordan in 1995.
