Harel Brigade 5th Battalion under the command of the 8th Brigade during the occupation of Nizzana
The assignment of the 5th Battalion and the 82nd Battalion moving along the difficult route of Khalasa-Ruheiba-Wadi Aviad-Bir Malaga: Blocking the road leading from Rafiah to Nizzana and thus enabling the occupation of Nizzana by the 8th Battalion. The assignment was carried out successfully and the enemy was prevented from reaching the designated area.

On the 25th of December, the Harel Brigade 5th Battalion under the command of Moshe (Moris) Ben- Dror and the 82nd Battalion moved along the difficult route of Khalasa-Ruheiba-Wadi Aviad-Bir Malaga located 10 kms south of Nizzana and in the early hours of the 26th of December, finally reached the road leading from Rafiah to Nizzana.
A Company from the 89th Battalion was left behind with antitank cannons in order to block the road leading from Rafiah and Abu-Agila while the 82nd Battalion attacked Nizzana. 20 Egyptian armored vehicles arrived from Rafiah, five of their armored vehicles were hit and the rest retreated back to Rafia during the battle. The 8th Brigade occupied Nizzana on the following day. The Egyptian force from Abu-Agila couldn’t overcome the Company's blocking force and suffered great losses. The 5th Battalion maintained the perimeter of Nizzana and the surrounding army posts.
