The Conclusion of the Operation "Yiftach"
The 'Yiftach' Operation achieved its objectives by liberating the Upper and Eastern Galilee areas totally.
By the end of the operation, the 3rd Battalion forces had destroyed two border stations in Syria that had controlled the kibbutzim Shamir and Lehavot Habashan; had blown up a bridge next to the Meron village and carried out a raid on the village.
The 'Yiftach' operation achieved all of its objectives by liberating the Upper and Eastern Galilee areas totally.
At the end, the commander of the operation met with Moshe Carmel, the :Carmeli' Brigade Commander, and suggested that the operations be continued.
The plans for the operations were that a force from the 'Yiftach' Battalion would move westwards, a 'Carmeli' force would move from the western Galilee, eastwards – and in that way they would gain control over the Western Galilee area. However, the General Staff of the army demanded the transfer of 'Yiftach' to the Latrun sector and the operation was not carried out.
At the Wadi Asel bridge operation, three men were killed:
Gad Greenbaum; Avigdor Karmarsh; Shlomo Katz.
