Malkya Operation Objectives

Operation objectives: To conquer the village of Malkya and halt the advance of the invasion on the 15th of May.
Company Commander M. explained: "Tomorrow or the next day the invasion will begin. Our comrades in the Negev will fight the Egyptians, the 'Har'el' Regiment will fight at the approaches to Jerusalem and we will thwart the Lebanese invasion. The regiment will conquer the Kedes village, the army camp and the Malkya village, in order to forestall any Lebanese actions for obstructing this road to the Upper Galilee."
The plan took into consideration the fact that the enemy would number hundreds of fighters – in the village and the army camp – and on the 15th of May, a Lebanese division would cross the border with the objective of advancing to Safed.

The operation was placed in the hands of the 1st Battalion of the Palmach -under the command of Dan Laner - who were assembled in the 'Filon' camp after the 'Matateh' operation. The Battlaion Commander ordered a special parade to mark the 7th anniversary since the founding of the Palmach.
The 1st Battalion consisted of:
Company A' - commanded by 'Chaka' – Yitzchak Hofi
Company B' – commanded by Shaike Gavish
Company C' – commanded by Asaf Simchoni
Regiment Commander – Dan Laner
Deputy Regiment Commander – Chaim Avinoam
