Forces and Objectives

The plan was to knock on the door of the armory as though the guard were being relieved, to overcome and tie up the guard, and to begin getting the weapons out through the window, to the teams who would carry them to the hole in the fence, where the trucks would be waiting.
The force was divided into seven squads: four from “G” company to provide cover, one to take over a nearby Arab house, and one, under Ami Livneh, to break into the armory, overpower the guards, and open the windows through which the arms would be removed. The seventh squad was held in reserve, to cover the retreat. More than sixty men were told off to act as porters and provide more cover. They were men from Kefar Ezer, who would carry the weapons out of the camp, bring them to Kefar Ezer, and hide them in the “Slick”, or secret arms cache, which had been prepared.

The operation was headed by the regimental commander Yosef Tabenkin.

Those in charge of procurement had promised to provide trucks with front-wheel drive, which would be able to get through the orange groves. The men of Kefar Ezer had ready herds of sheep, which were to be driven over the tracks of the trucks, and thus obliterate them.
