The Battle of the Radar Site

The British army established the radar command post on top of a hill (800 meters above sea level), and later transferred it to the Jordan legion. It dominated the only road leading to Jerusalem and the near by settlements of Qaryat El Inab and Ma'ale Hachamisha.
The command post was occupied by the 4th Battalion only to be reoccupied by the Jordan legion. The 5th Battalion and the Jerusalem Chish (Field combat Corps) failed to reoccupy the command post once more, and during the attack against Nabi Samuel, on April, 1948, the retreating Jewish forces suffered many casualties.
The 4th Battalion reoccupied the radar site by mid May, and by the end of May the site was reoccupied by the legion. At the beginning of June, the 4th Battalion and the Jerusalem Chish (Field combat Corps) failed to reoccupy the site and suffered 45 fatalities and many were wounded.
The Radar site remained under the occupation of the Jordan legion up until the Six Day War.
