Results of Operation "Yevusi"
The part of the city under Jewish control was extended and strengthened, traffic to Mount Scopus was resumed, Arab forces were pinned down in defensive positions. But the battalions of the “Harel” brigade suffered heavy losses.
The Arabs were driven out of Sheikh Jarrakh, traffic to and from Mt. Scopus was resumed, and the occupation of Katamon substantially changed the state of the whole city. The attack on Shu’afat, and on Arab positions along the eastern ridges, pinned down the Jordanian Arab Legion in defensive positions, and prevented them from initiating any offensive action.
However, the Arabs took advantage of the “Harel” brigade’s activity in Jerusalem, to strengthen their hold on outposts in the Sha’ar Hagai area, and to block the road and destroy parts of it.
The “Harel” brigade suffered severe casualties --- about 220 --- and in consequence, was badly weakened. It was in need of reinforcements, reorganization, and time to recover.
