Forces and objectives: Nabi Samuel

The capture of this village was planned as a two-stage operation. Four companies of no. 4 regiment were to take part.
The village and mosque of Nabi Samuel are on the top of a high hill, overlooking the entire area, and commanding a field of fire on the roads to Jerusalem. Their capture was, in consequence, of great importance. But the commanding position of Nabi Samuel, and the powerful Arab force stationed there, made its capture a very difficult.

The capture of this village was planned as a two-stage night operation. Four companies of the Fourth Battalion were to take part. “A” company, under Mordechai Ben-Porat, was to take the village of Beit Iksa, south of Nabi Samuel. An armored company, commanded by Micha Perlson-Perry, and carrying the “Davidka” mortar and an air compressor (to be used for digging-in at Nabi Samuel after Beit Iksa was cleaned out), was to travel along a dirt track from the Jerusalem-Motza road, pass through Beit Iksa, and join up with “B” and “C” companies, and would then assist “B” company in taking Nebi Samuel. “B” company, under Haim Poznanski (“Poza”) was to move in from the north and take the outpost. “C” company, under Uri Ben-Ari-Benner, was to occupy the crossroads on the Bidu-Nabi Samuel road, block the road from Bidu, and cover “B” company during the assault.
