The Harel Convoy
The convoy was sent to Jerusalem as part of the 'Harel' operation. On the dawn of the 17.4.48, the convoy that included 130 trucks and 140 tons of vital food provisions left Tel-Aviv, further 60 tons of powdered milk was loaded in Kfar Bilu and 80 tons of flour was loaded in Hulda.
The convoy left Hulda at 06:50 AM including a joint force of 'Givati', 'Harel and 'Alexandroni men, and reached Jerusalem at 11:25 AM, unharmed. At 17:20 PM, the convoy started on its way back and encountered Arab forces by Dir-Jobe, but managed to reach Hulda unharmed.
At 06:40 AM on the 19.4.48, another large convoy including 300 trucks and 1000 tons of food provisions left for Jerusalem, arrived safely, unloaded the provisions and by 09:30 AM was already on its way back to the lowland.
On the same day, H.Q. decided to send yet another convoy on the following day.
The entire 5th Battalion and 'Harel' Brigade staff joined the convoy on their way to take part in the 'Yevusi operation' and Ben- Gurion and others from the Jewish agency's management joined the convoy in order to closely assess the situation in the besieged city.
