The company was set up at the end of the summer of 1947, as a commanding framework for smaller forces which were assembled for a defined security mission that would demand a labor and training basis. That was why it differed from the other companies.
The company consisted of units and platoons, including a reserve force which was transferred to the company from the Second Battalion. The company’s primary mission was to protect the water lines to the Negev and their workers, from road mining and sabotaging operations. These operations threatened the watering project whose object was to connect the new settlements of the Negev to the water system. During the day the company’s men secured the pipes, some of them under the disguise of guards. During the nights they ambushed and harmed the Arab gangs. These operations improved the security situation in the Negev. The company was reinforced with additional forces and executed wider operations until the responsibility for the safety of the Negev region was passed to the Palmach headquarters on October 1947.
