Medal of Valor – Z'rubavel Horowitz

Zrubavel Horowitz was the commander of the armored vehicle "The Burst Barrier" in the large convoy that was attacked on the 27.3.1948, near Nebi Daniel. Zrubavel's armored vehicle that led the convoy, broke through one barricade after another until it began to have difficulties and was cut off from the rest of the convoy. The wounded men in the armored vehicle withstood the attacks of hundreds of Arabs for many hours. Eventually the attackers succeeded in setting fire to the vehicle and as they approached, Zrubavel exploded the vehicle together with himself and his wounded friends (three of whom managed to escape), in order not to fall into the hands of the Arabs while alive – and they were all killed.
