Medal of Valor – Ben Zion Leitner

Ben Zion Leitner acted heroically in the battle on the Iraq Suedan Fortress during the 'Yoav' campaign (19.10.48). When the combat troops approached within 50 meters of the fortress, they were unable to advance further because of the heavy fire rained on them from an Arab bunker. Ben-Zion stormed the bunker alone and succeeded in silencing the fire with grenades.
He suffered serious injuries from this operation.
