Medal of Valor - Siman Tov Gana
The Story of the Medal of Valor.
Siman Tov Gana, an armored forces soldier, was wounded in the last battle for the Iraq Suedan fortress (9.11.48) when his armored car was shelled and his fellow soldiers were killed or wounded. Despite his injuries, he covered the retreat of the other armored cars with the machine gun from his vehicle. He remained in the area for six hours, provided first aid to the wounded soldiers, dressed their wounds and saved their lives. When darkness fell and the Egyptian soldiers began to approach, he opened fire on them and they retreated. Both of his legs were amputated when he was admitted to the hospital.
