Alberta – Pietro A

"Pietro A" was built in Italy close to its purchasing, and was intended for use as a cargo ship. "Pietro A" sailed from Tabanto Port in Italy on September 12th 1945, with 171 immigrants on board.
The "Pietro A" Haapala ship was prepared to depart for Israel in the Lavanta shipyard on a shore in southern Italy, with the help of Jewish soldiers from Transportation unit 468 of the British army. The ship commander was Palyam member Eliezer Varsh (Armoni.)
The 'Gidoni' was Avraham Reiss. An additional escort was Palyam member Zvi Kazhenelson.
"Pietro A" was built in Italy close to its purchasing, and was intended for use as a cargo ship. "Pietro A" sailed from Tabanto Port in Italy on September 12th 1945, with 171 immigrants on board. The ship arrived safely at Shefayim shore on September 19th, without being spotted by the British. The immigrants were unloaded and were dispersed among nearby settlements.
The ship returned to Italy that same day, with 11 envoys on board to reinforce the Haapala endeavor.
