Rina vivara – Tirat Tzvi

The Haapala ship, "Tirat Tzvi," sailed from Gaita Port in Italy on April 3rd 1948, with 798 immigrants on board.
The Haapala ship, "Tirat-Tzvi" (named after kibbutz Tirat-Tzvi in Besian Valley, which drove away the Arab "rescue force" after a grueling battle On February 16th 1948) sailed from Gaita port in Italy on April 3rd 1948, with 798 immigrants on board. The ship commander was Palyam member, Bezalel Feldman. The 'Gidoni' was Yosef Lazrovsky. Additional escorts were Yuval Tsizling and Osnat Goldenberg, as well as two American escorts - Arnold Kate and Eliyahu Berkman, and Eli Haboinik, a student from Switzerland.
"Tirat Tzvi" sailed in a stormy sea with no navigation equipment. After a few travel days, it docked at the island of Seria for two days to fix technical failures and wait for the winter weather to improve. It was spotted by a British reconnaissance aircraft On April 12th, and a few hour later, was followed by three destroyers.
"Tirat Tzvi" entered Haifa Port, and on April 13th, its immigrants were transferred to the "Empire Rival" deportation ship. Osnat Goldenberg joined the immigrants that were taken to the "Winter Camps" in Cyprus, while the remaining escorts hid in a pre-arranged 'Slik' on board the ship, and were later rescued by 'Solel Boneh' workers, disguised as cleaners.
