"Lanitzachon" sailed from Brindisi Port in Italy on May 8th 1948, with 189 immigrants on board. According to plan, "Lanitzachon" was supposed to meet the "Medinat Israel" Haapala ship near the island of Crete, and continue with it up to 200 miles from the Israeli shores, then transfer its immigrants and foreign crew and return to Italy. But on May 14th, it was decided not to execute the transfer but continue together all the way to Israel. "Lanitzachon" arrived at the Tel-Aviv shore on May 17th, two days after the Declaration of Independence; it safely and openly disembarked its immigrants and returned to Italy with the "Medinat Israel" ship on May 19th.
